Ernesto Scarpitti is the Corporate Safety Manager at Delta Railroad Services where he oversees all safety aspects for the company — from the main office building and bidding annex, to the Quality Track remanufacturing facility, headquarters’ equipment shop area, and all field operation locations.
As part of his oversight portfolio, Ernesto also manages Delta’s Drug and Alcohol [Free] Program, Workers' Compensation documentation and management, Safety Training oversight for all positions, and planning/implementation of our show/advertising booths for all tradeshows. Ernesto's core focus is to ensure our employees are always fit for duty and to minimize, if not eliminate, accidents.
Ernesto joined Delta Railroad services in 1997, after serving in the U.S. Army. His father, an Italian immigrant, served as Delta’s Chief Equipment mechanic before retiring from Delta at the age of 70. Today, one of Ernesto’s sons, Nicholas, also works at Delta as a Field Engineer.
Ernesto holds degrees from Kent State University, is a Certified Hazard Control Manager (CHCM), is OSHA 500 Certified Outreach Instructor for Construction, and facilitates numerous industry-specific training.
He has served on several safety committees including the role as Chairperson — including the Ashtabula County Safety Council and the National Railroad Contractors and Maintenance Association (NRCMA). Ernesto has also participated on the Northeast Corridor Safety Advisory Committee and Railroad Safety Advisory Committee.
When Ernesto is not working, he enjoys operating his BBQ catering business with his wife Bernadine, hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, enjoying a good meal, and spending time with his grandchild.
